Located at 120 West Culpeper Street in Culpeper Downtown, The Refinery Ministries is a nonprofit event venue that offers a welcoming setting for weddings, celebrations, conferences, workshops, and special events. But beyond the beautiful spaces and thoughtful hospitality, there’s a deeper mission at the heart of it all: restoration in marriages and connection within our community.
At its core, The Refinery Ministries was born from a desire to create meaningful spaces for people to gather.
Whether it’s a couple celebrating their wedding day, friends gathering for a special event, women making new connections, or a community coming together for an evening of encouragement, the goal is the same: create an environment where people feel welcomed, cared for, and connected.
“We hope people feel excellent hospitality and filled up after attending any event we help host,” Joy Orr, owner of The Refinery Ministries, shared.
That sense of hospitality extends beyond private events. The Refinery hosts monthly gatherings specifically for women, allowing them to relax, meet new people, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful time together. These events are centered around encouragement and personal growth to make connection feel easy and accessible.
What makes The Refinery’s nonprofit model especially meaningful is that its private event revenue helps fund its ministry work. This revenue from private event bookings helps offset the cost of marriage intensives and makes free community events possible year-round. The Refinery Ministries also supports couples through premarital counseling and focused marriage intensives, providing intentional support for couples looking to build a strong foundation, reconnect, or work through difficult seasons together. So whether you’re attending a wedding, booking a private event, staying in one of their on-site suites, or joining a free community gathering, your visit helps support work that reaches local couples, women, and families.
For The Refinery team, being located in downtown Culpeper is an important part of the experience. “We love that it is the most vibrant and cultured feeling downtown for miles,” Joy Orr shared. “We have clients who come from NOVA quite often comment on how it just feels different here.” And it’s easy to see why. Culpeper Downtown brings together history, art, locally owned businesses, restaurants, coffee shops, and plenty to do all while maintaining its own unique personality.
“It is artsy, while being historic, while also being fun and modern with lots to do.”
For The Refinery, Culpeper Downtown also provides plenty of opportunities to connect with others. When they aren’t busy at their own business, you’ll often find them enjoying one of downtown’s many coffee shops. “We spend a lot of our time meeting with clients, people in the community, and friends, and we just have so many unique spaces to do that in Culpeper!”
