Culpeper Renaissance Inc. (CRI) is increasing the annual budget and parameters of their incentive plan to support and revitalize the historic downtown corridor.  Over the past 35 years, Culpeper Renaissance Inc. has assisted in the rejuvenation of downtown, as the overall appearance of the downtown buildings weigh heavily on the success of CRI’s ongoing efforts towards downtown vitality. This program will encourage downtown building improvements ranging from minor repairs to full renovations.

CRI’s Façade, Interior, Sign & Awning Improvement Grant Program is designed to assist with the maintenance and rehabilitation needs of buildings within the CRI footprint.  The investment is to offer 50/50 matching grants to interested and qualified building and business owners.

“This grant program is a great opportunity for downtown businesses and property owners to improve curb appeal and foot traffic while minimizing the financial impact”, states Glen Hoffherr, CRI Board President.

Grants may be awarded for up to 50% of the total cost of qualified façade and permanent interior restorations, repairs, or rehabilitations with a maximum grant award of $1,000 for façade or permanent interior improvements, and $500 for sign or awning improvements.  The program’s annual budget is $10,000 and has been made possible through CRI’s fundraising efforts.

Owners and tenants (with permission from the building owner) of commercial or mixed commercial-residential property located in the CRI footprint may apply for funds.  Tenants must have at least a two-year lease at the location in order to qualify for the grant program.

Jessica Jenkins, CRI Executive Director states “I’m thrilled to see this grant program grow. Our organization works hard each year to be able to provide revitalization incentives like this. I look forward to seeing merchants and building owners take advantage of this grant opportunity.”
